Teeth whitening for Oakville, Mississauga and Burlington residents. Enjoy all the benefits of teeth whitening services, which are very popular amongst our "health conscious" and "anti-aging" society. Studies show that this isn't going to change. Teeth whitening services are growing in popularity, and it’s one of our most requested services.

Most whitening products are peroxide-based and are actually capable of altering the colour of the tooth itself without damaging its structure. The peroxide ingredient is what actually whitens the enamel and makes your teeth whiter. The strength of the whitening treatment typically depends on the strength of the peroxide contained in the whitening product.

With any system there are always limitations and each individual result will vary. Tooth coloured fillings, crowns (caps), veneers and some stains will not whiten. Also, whitening is not a one-time procedure; it will need to be repeated from time to time if you want to maintain the brighter colour.

If you are considering teeth whitening, be sure to review the facts about teeth whitening with a dental professional first. Only a dental professional can tell you if your teeth and gums are healthy enough to go through a whitening process.

JW Dental Hygiene in Oakville offers free consultations to determine if you are a candidate to have your teeth whitened. A thorough assessment will answer your specific concerns and help you decide the best treatment for you.

Teeth Whitening Options at JW Dental Hygiene Include:

  • In-Office Teeth Whitening

In-office teeth whitening offer excellent results. The procedure is very simple. 25% H2O2 gel is applied directly to the teeth using a brush. An LED teeth whitening lamp is placed directly in front of the exposed teeth and run for 15-20 minutes. It is recommended to do 3-4 sessions of professional teeth whitening to get the best and longer lasting results.

    Here how it works:

1st Session: Opens the pores of the enamel allowing the whitening gel to penetrate the teeth but very little if any whitening occurs.

2nd Session: Gel is able to quickly penetrate tooth enamel now that the pores are open and some visible whitening will occur.

3rd and 4th Session: Maximum whitening results are achieved during the third and fourth session.

This is because the bleaching agent takes time to travel through the enamel of your teeth to bleach the stained dentin below. The dentin gives your teeth the natural bone or white color you see. That’s what you really want to whiten. When you do only one whitening session you are really just whitening the enamel and the results won’t be that long lasting. If you take the time to do the teeth whitening process properly, three to four 15 minutes sessions with a professional system, you will whiten the dentin correctly and get the best teeth whitening results that will last for a long time.

  • Take Home Whitening Trays and Gels

Teeth whitening trays and gels are very effective, but the desired results take longer to achieve. These clear trays are usually worn during the day or overnight and can take anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks before results are achieved.

Teeth whitening kits from the dental professional produce faster and more effective results because they contain a stronger peroxide-whitening agent than whitening kits purchased over the counter. Another benefit of trays and gels from the dental professional is that the trays are custom made and fit your teeth exactly. Clinical studies support the safety and effectiveness of home-use bleaching gels when used properly. Tooth sensitivity and irritation to soft tissues can occur during whitening treatment, but these effects are temporary.
